Jack Pointeau
A Self-Taught Sculptor
Jack Pointeau was raised on the Brittany peninsula, growing up during WWII occupation of France. He was educated in Law, a career field he pursued for a few years with the help of his wife Françoise.  Jack's schoolbooks were filled up with drawings, a gift inherited from several members of his family, some of them making art work a way of living.

Sculpture was far from Jack's mind until 1987, then living in Snyder, County Seat of Scurry County in West Texas, where Jack, his wife and their four children settled for several years.  A day in November, the Snyder Rotary Club whose Jack was a member invited a local sculptor to make a demonstration of his art.  Jack had the opportunity to see clay models, finished bronzes, and tools, and to listen to a passionate presentation by the artist.
Back home, Jack explained to his family what he saw, claiming that he should be able to do some kind of sculpture if he had the opportunity.  This opportunity, or better said a challenge, became a reality at Christmas 1987 when he received 5lbs of clay as a gift.

Living in America, Jack started to read about the first inhabitants of his new home and his readings soon translated into clay models, which found their way to the foundry.
